The DFSR short term program
The Discover Germany program is especially for groups of 10 or more participants. You can choose to stay for 1 week or longer and also decide if your group will mainly be getting to know Germany and interacting with the host family or also taking part in a language course. We have several options to make sure each group can really make the most of the time here.
All groups will be picked up at Frankfurt airport and then travel 40 minutes to Heppenheim, where they will meet the carefully selected host families. Each participant will take part in the daily routine of the family and may attend the local public school with the natural children if this is desired and appropriate.
Cultural and free time activities are offered by both the host families and DFSR, making sure each member of the group has time for the family but also sees enough of the rest of the group. Groups which have chosen to book a combination with the language module will be picked up at the family home and driven to our language school, where they receive 25 lessons a week and also have lunch together. A nice dinner and a farewell party finish off all group stays. Throughout the stay our caring staff are on hand to help, advise and enjoy getting to know your group.
Host families
DFSR host families for the short term program live in Heppenheim or in the small towns nearby. Many host families have children who have participated in an Academic Year Program to a foreign country or who are currently abroad so that there is a vacant room for an exchange student. We know all of our families personally since we have met them at DFSR preparation meetings. Mostly, our families have children who still go to school. A host family can also be a single parent or pensioners. Self placements are possible. At least one member of the host family is likely to speak English, making communication for participants with no prior knowledge of German possible.
Supervision and guidance
DFSR staff will be present during the entire stay. A DFSR 24 hour emergency number will be provided for host families and participants. We will organize all parts of the program, join the excursions and be available for all questions and for counseling during the whole exchange.
