Excursion and cultural activities
Located in the middle of Germany and offering a variety of points of interest, Heppenheim is the perfect starting point for exploring the region. We can offer several excursions during the exchange and we will be happy to design an individual program for you.
Heidelberg
One of the most beautiful cities in Germany is just a stone’s throw away from Heppenheim. It offers a beautiful old town and the world-famous Heidelberg Castle. The oldest university in Germany was founded in Heidelberg and the city’s ambiance is highly influenced by the university students. Writers, poets and philosophers have strolled along the Philosophers' Path and enjoyed the idyllic views from above the town. Architectural gems and unique sites are waiting to be discovered in every part of the old town.
Frankfurt
Frankfurt has the tallest building in Europe, the famous Zeil shopping street and an internationally renowned trade fair centre. Situated on the Main River, Frankfurt is Germany’s financial centre and the largest on continental Europe. The “city of contrasts” also offers the picturesque Römerberg square as well as Sachsenhausen, which is lined with historical timber-framed buildings.
Speyer and the Wine region – Palatinate
Less than an hour away from Heppenheim you can explore one of the oldest cities in Germany. In Speyer there is the famous Kaiserdom, one of the western world´s most important examples of architecture and the largest of European Romanesque churches. Not far from Speyer there is what is known as the German Wine Route. It is the warmest region in Germany and famous for its flowering fields in Spring, painting the whole region pink and white. Participants will enjoy the beautiful countryside, many old castles and the view of seemingly endless rows of grape vines.
Holiday Park
The ultimate adrenaline rush for everyone! holiday Park is one of Germany’s largest amusement parks with amazing attractions, spectacular roller coasters, a free fall tower, white water rafting as well as water stunt and special effect shows. This is always a must for the students, their host brothers and sisters and newly found friends.
The castle of Neuschwanstein and Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze
Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. The setting of Neuschwanstein could not be more idyllic. King Ludwig II built it on a rugged hill against a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery, surrounded by the German Alps. More than 1.3 million people visit Neuschwanstein annually. The palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland‘s ‘Sleeping Beauty Castle’. At the Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany with an altitude of about 3000 meters, our students will have fun in the snow with sleigh riding and snow ball fights. This three day excursion with two overnight stays in a youth hostel can be offered for a three week program.
